Stephen Nelson is a sculptor who divides his time between London and Italy. He has exhibited his work internationally and has also curated exhibitions of work by British artists for the British Council (in Eritrea and Tanzania).
In 1999 Stephen was appointed the Arts Council England Helen Chadwick Fellow in Sculpture. During this residency he developed a series of works about wolves that related to his time spent in Italy, at the British School at Rome, and at Oxford University.
In 2017 he curated the show 'Poor Art: Italian Influences British Responses' at the Estorick Collection, London. This exhibition featured works by Michelangelo Pistoletto, Richard Long, Tony Cragg, Giuseppe Penone, Stephen Nelson and Mona Hatoum.
